Franklin Pierce Drops Two at Bloomsburg Duels
Ravens fall to Bloomsburg 8-1, then to Concordia 5-0
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (April 6, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team fell to Bloomsburg University 8-1 and then dropped a 5-0 decision to Concordia College at the Bloomsburg Duels in a non-conference doubleheader in Bloomsburg, Pa. this afternoon.
Bloomsburg's Kris Shumway posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over sophomore Darko Minic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/XII Belgrade Gimnasium) at #1 singles, while Mike McGrath defeated junior Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) 6-1, 6-4 at #2 singles to lead the Huskies.
Junior Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) recorded his seventh straight singles win, as he defeated Bloomsburg's Brendan Miller 6-4, 6-1 to notch Franklin Pierce's lone point of the match.
In game two of the afternoon doubleheader, Ton Pham and Bhaskar Chowdury each secured 8-4 victories in their doubles matches and then went on to notch two set wins at #3 and #6 singles, respectively.
Franklin Pierce (7-9, 3-2 NE-10) returns to the court on Tuesday, April 9, when it hosts American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 3 p.m.
