Three Franklin Pierce Tennis Players Earn NE-10 Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (May 3, 2001) - Three members of the Franklin Pierce men's tennis team earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors. The announcement was made recently at the NE-10 Tournament Awards Banquet.

Senior Brian Kuscher (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) was voted to the All-NE-10 second team by the Conference coaches. Kuscher posted an overall record of 24-18 this past season as he competed for the Ravens primarily at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. While he was 9-12 in singles play, he teamed with fellow All-Conference pick Tom Hennessey (Manchester, N.H./Tilton Academy) to post a 12-5 record at No. 1 singles.

"Brian is a hard worker on the tennis court," said Franklin Pierce Head Coach Chet Porowski. "He is one of the smartest and mentally toughest players in our Conference."

Sophomore Ricky Sanford (Bridgeport, Conn./Bunnell) was named to the All-Conference third team. Sanford burst onto the NE-10 scene and posted a 27-8 record this season. His 13-1 singles record was tops on the team, with his lone loss coming to unbeaten Assumption College's No. 6 singles player. Sanford posted a 7-0 mark at No. 5 singles and teamed with five different doubles partners to register a 14-7 clip.

"Ricky is a true team player and a great competitor," said Porowski. "He plays with a lot of heart and determination."

Hennessey earned Honorable Mention All-NE-10 accolades. He posted a 24-12 overall mark this season, including a 12-6 record at No. 2 singles.

"Tom is the most underrated player in the Northeast-10," said Porowski. "He has the best first and second serve in the Conference to go along with a great forehand and volley."

The Franklin Pierce tennis team posted a 14-9 overall record and finished in fourth place in the NE-10 with an 8-3 clip. The Ravens advanced to the Conference semifinals before being defeated by Assumption, an NCAA Tournament participant.
