Franklin Pierce Drops Two at Bloomsburg Duals Tournament
Bloomsburg, Pa. (April 9, 2001) -
The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team was dealt
a pair of defeats in the rain-shortened Bloomsburg Duals Tournament
over the weekend.
After rain cancelled Friday's scheduled match with Millersville University, Franklin Pierce was bested by Dowling College (6-3) on Saturday, and Concordia (N.Y.) College (7-2) on Sunday.
Sophomores Michael Hoffner (Wantaugh, N.Y./Wantaugh) and Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) each registered singles victories in the loss to Dowling, while Shannon also teamed with classmate Ricky Sanford (Bridgeport, Conn./Bunnell) for a point at No. 3 doubles.
On Sunday, Sanford posted a victory
at No. 6 singles, while senior Tom
Hennessey
(Manchester, N.H./Tilton Academy) won at No. 2 singles against
Concordia.
Franklin Pierce (8-7, 3-2 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday, when it travels to Springfield, Mass., to face American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3 p.m.
