HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The first goal of the game didn't come until the 34th minute when Adelphi's Victor Castel hit a leading pass to Jesper Mikkelsen who broke through the FPU defense and slipped a shot bottom left by FPU sophomore goalie Diego Montoya Casillas (Cuernavaca, Mexico).
  • The Ravens responded in similar fashion six minutes after the first goal of the game. FPU graduate student Lucio Yahia (Buenos Aires, Argentina) stormed over midfield and hit a leading pass to graduate student Younes Addar Khanoussi (Castellon, Spain). Entering the box one-on-one with the Adelphi goalie, Khanoussi hit a chip shot over the keeper ringing off the bottom left pipe and into the goal.
  • 45 seconds into the second half, Adelphi took their second lead of the game after AU's Benji Jones hit a pass from midfield to Rory Duggan who after chesting the ball forward secured enough time to fire a shot from the top of the goalie crease and into the net.
  • In the 57th minute, FPU graduate student Alvaro Rey Mira (Cabanas, Spain) drew two AU defenders at the top of the box. The double team left sophomore Antonio Lampreia Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) wide open at the middle of the box and after a quick pass, Lima fired a screened shot low by the Adelphi goalkeeper.
  • The game deciding goal came at the end of the 69th minute, when FPU junior Caleb Williams (Attleboro, Mass.) pushed into the top corner of the box, split right from his defender and fired a shot. From about 25 yards out, Williams painted the top right corner giving the Ravens the lead. Adelphi failed to find the back of the net in the remaining 20 minutes of play.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Ravens outshot the Panthers 20 to 14.
  • Corner kick opportunities were abundant for the Ravens who had six compared the Adelphi's single corner.
  • GK Diego Montoya Casillas played the full 90 minutes making three saves on five shots on goal.
