RINDGE, N.H. (October 12, 2018) – On a chilly Friday night at Sodexo Field the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team cranked up the heat and won their fifth consecutive match, a 1-0 upset of no. 7 nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University under the lights. With the win, the Ravens improve to 6-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 NE10 while the Penmen fall to 10-2-1, 6-2-1 NE10.

The Penmen haven't had success on Sodexo Field recently last winning 3-0 on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Since then, the Crimson and Grey have won the past three home battles against their cross-state rival beating #2 SNHU 1-0 on September 28, 2016, upending them 2-1 in double-OT on November 1, 2016, dispatching the defending league champions from the conference tournament and their 1-0 shutout tonight.

FPU broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 70th minute when junior midfielder and current NE10 Player of the Week Noam Kolakofsky (Achziv, Israel) reeled in a through ball by fellow midfielder Joel Peterson (Christchurch, New Zealand). The pass split the two trailing defenders and left Kolakofsky in a one-versus-one situation with Penmen netminder Daniel Milton. Kolakofsky deeked Milton out of his shoes, left him in the dust and dumped in his fifth score of the season.

Southern New Hampshire recorded more shots than the Ravens (13-to-7) and corner kicks (8-to-3), but the Ravens had more of their shot attempts on goal.

SNHU's best opportunity came in the 38th minute. Nadjib Chibout raced down the center of the pitch and attempted a chip shot over the head of reigning NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago). Poon-Lewis collided with Chibout, knocked him down and was eventually issued a yellow card. However, the ball kept traveling to the open cage until a trailing Jordan Barnett (Grimsby, England) kicked the rock out of harms way before it crossed the end line.

In the second half, the Penmen almost drew first blood when sophomore midfielder Tom Marriott rifled a one-timer after a corner kick that was immediately snared by Poon-Lewis. Five minutes later, FPU broke the game open.

Milton made three saves in the loss dropping to 10-2-1 on the year while Poon-Lewis recorded his third shutout win over the last four games to move to 6-7-0 overall.

The Ravens will hope to extend their win streak to six games on Wednesday, October 17th versus NE10 opponent Merrimack College with first kick on Sodexo Field slated for 7:00 p.m.
