RINDGE, N.H. (September 1, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's soccer sophomore forward Yannik Felber (Vallendar, Germany) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 10th minute as the Ravens were victorious Saturday evening on Sodexo Field upending non-conference opponent Queens (N.Y.) College 1-0. With the win, the Crimson and Grey even up their mark at 1-1 while the Knights slide to 1-1.

Felber was driving the guest baseline and was fouled in the box while trying to make a move to score. He was promptly awarded a penalty shot and converted the free strike into the right corner of the cage. It was the lone marker in the hotly contested physical affair that saw 33 total fouls, three yellow cards and three red card ejections.

Raven junior netminder Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) was sensational in net for the hosts recording his eighth career shutout while stopping three incoming shot attempts. His counterpart Mike DeCanio made five saves in the setback.

The Knights galloped into the second half trailing in the shot column, but the guests outshot the Ravens 9-4 over the course of the final 45 minutes. Their two best chances to knot the ballgame came late in the showdown. With about 18 minutes left, senior midfielder Andras Breuer footed the ball into the lower right of the net past a diving Poon-Lewis, but the referee blew a late whistle and signaled a foul on Franklin Pierce before the shot negating the would-be goal.

Down a man following a red card ejection of a Queens player who kicked the ball at an injured Ravens athlete, the Knights almost tied the score with five minutes on the clock. Junior forward Emgi Gousse stood at the top of the box and rifled a high-shot that clanked off the crossbar and bounced out of play. Following a yellow card delay of game on Poon-Lewis the Ravens cleared the zone until the field was at even strength again as a Raven player was issued a red card. The Knights had one more chance to deadlock the score, but the Ravens defensive unit forced a wide shot off the foot of Pedro Lamarre to end the scoring threat.

The Ravens head out on the road Wednesday for the first time this season as they travel to the University of Bridgeport to play no. 6 nationally-ranked Long Island University – Post in a neutral site duel at 4:00 p.m.
