Kolakofsky’s Late Strike Not Enough as #11 Adelphi Runs Past Ravens

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 11, 2016) – Freshman Noam Kolakofsky (Liman, Israel) racked up his second goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as #11 nationally-ranked Adelphi University beat Franklin Pierce 2-1 Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action. The loss drops the Crimson and Grey's record to 7-3, 5-3 NE-10 and the win improves the Panthers to 9-1-1, 7-0-1 NE-10.

The hosts controlled the ball for most of the first half, however, only held a one shot, 6-5 advantage over the Ravens. Alejandro Penzini got the Panthers on the board first in the seventh minute of play with his second score of the year.

In the second stanza, James Thristino took a one touch pass after a cross to finish into the open net to make it a two goal Adelphi lead late in the contest.

Following the Panther score, FPU reversed field position in the 77th minute. Charlie Madden (Newton Abbot, United Kingdom) put a shot on net that banged off the cross bar and fell to the foot of Kolakofksy who corralled the loose ball and struck the back of the cage to decrease the Raven deficit to one, 2-1. The Ravens were unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes of play.

Fresh off his second career shutout, Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) made three saves and dropped to 7-3 on the year. Spenser Powell improved to 9-1-1 and stopped three shots in the Panther win.

The Ravens return to Sodexo Field on Saturday when they host NE-10 and #19 nationally-ranked Merrimack at 7:00 p.m.
