Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 (2 OT) Tie at American International

Cortijo scores lone goal

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 23, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team found a first-half goal on the road on Wednesday night, but it was eventually erased by a second-half goal from American International at Ronald J. Abdow Field. Neither team could find more than one marker on the night, as the two played to a 1-1 tie in Northeat-10 Conference play.

With the draw, Franklin Pierce now stands at 3-2-1 (1-1-1 Northeast-10), while AIC moves to 3-2-1 (1-1-1 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring on Wednesday night in the 38th minute. Senior forward Marius Preber (Jessheim, Norway) extended his point-scoring streak to five games (4-3-11), as he provided the setup on the play. Preber fed senior midfielder Lorris Cortijo (Paris, France), who scored his second goal of the season.

AIC would ultimately equalize nearly 15 minutes into the second half, in the 60th minute. Junior back Lasse Olrik scored his first career goal, unassisted.

From there, the final half-hour of regulation and all 20 minutes of overtime would go without another goal, leaving each team with a 1-1 draw. Franklin Pierce held a 22-16 advantage in shot attempts on the day, while each team put eight shots on goal. The Ravens earned nine corners, to AIC's five.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan LeGuyader (Jersey, United Kingdom) finished with seven saves in the tie (3-2-1) for Franklin Pierce. At the other end, junior Sebastian Tamayo (3-2-1) made seven saves as well.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
