Appah Finds Net in 64th, Men’s Soccer Picks Up 1-0 Win at Saint Michael’s

Ravens head to Assumption Saturday in search of back-to-back wins

Appah Appah netted his first goal in a Raven uniform on Wednesday afternoon at Saint Michael's.

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 24, 2014) – Graduate student midfielder Quincy Appah (Accra, Ghana) scored the game's only goal in the 64th minute on Wednesday afternoon to help the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team to a 1-0 road win over Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play at Duffy Field. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan LeGuyader (Jersey, United Kingdom) made four saves to post the shutout for Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-3-0 (1-2-0 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's falls to 5-2-0 (1-2-0 Northeast-10).

While the shot attempts in the game were relatively even, with Franklin Pierce holding an 11-8 edge, the Ravens tested senior goalkeeper Nicco Roque more often than LeGuyader faced challenges from Saint Michael's. The Ravens finished with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

After the first hour of the game went scoreless, Appah was finally able to break the ice in the 64th minute. He was able to find space, break in all alone against Roque and put the ball into the upper-right corner for his first goal as a Raven.

LeGuyader sent away all four shots on his net on Wednesday night to pick up the win (3-1-0) and post the second shutout in four games to begin his career. Roque finished with seven saves at the other end and took the loss (5-2-0) in net for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Multi-Sport Stadium in Worcester, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Tuesday, Sept. 30 against Bentley at 7 p.m.
