Seven Men's Soccer Standouts Named All-NE-10 Including Gareth Dudney on First-Team

At least one Raven has earned first-team honors since 2000

RINDGE, N.H. (November 8, 2013) – Seven Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer players were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference on Friday, as the league announced its all-conference teams. Highlighting the list was senior midfielder/forward Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass.), who was named to the All-NE-10 First-Team for his impressive offensive efforts this season.

Joining Dudney as all-conference honorees were graduate student and back Terence Ciavarra (Sutton, Mass.) on the second team, graduate student and forward Ryan Ruffing (Westborough, Mass.) on the third team, senior midfielder Jefferson Rojas (Pawtucket, R.I.) on the third team, and freshmen Pedro Espindola (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Dallas Donovan (South Yarmouth, Mass.), and Bent Johansen (Trondheim, Norway) on the third team and all-rookie team.

Dudney has scored five goals and assisted on two others for a team-best 12 points this season. His goal total was also the highest on the team, while his two helpers tied for the second highest mark on the squad. Dudney ranks in the top-10 in the Northeast-10 in several categories, including second in shots (56), third in penalty kicks (2-for-2) and ninth in goals.

Dudney’s first-team accolade in 2013 means that at least one Raven has earned First-Team All-NE-10 honors each year since the school joined the league prior to the 2000 season.

Ciavarra picked up second-team recognition after being one of the steadiest defenders in the league this past season. He helped anchor a defensive unit which produced eight shutouts on the year. Ciavarra also was credited with an assist on the season.

Ruffing earned third-team honors after scoring once and assisting on three other goals for five points this year. He ranked 11th in the league with 35 shots, with his goal coming in the season-opener versus Wilmington (Del.) on Sept. 5.

Rojas was also placed on the third-team, and like Ciavarra, provided a steadying presence on the back end for the Ravens in 2013. He was credited with one assist on the year.

The trio of freshmen, Espindola, Donovan, and Johansen, each were placed on the third-team and the all-rookie team. Espindola and Donovan were tied for second on the team with four goals, while the former ranked third in the NE-10 with 55 shots. Johansen was also a member of a strong defensive unit, as he started in 16 of the first 17 matches.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Friday night when the Ravens take on Merrimack in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship at 7 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
