Men's Soccer's Gareth Dudney & Pedro Espindola Named NE-10 Player & Rookie of the Week

Second weekly award for each player this season

RINDGE, N.H. (October 28, 2013) – A pair of Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer standouts received weekly recognition from the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday, as senior Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Pedro Espindola (Sao Paulo, Brazil) were named the league’s player and rookie of the week, respectively.

It marks the second time in the last three weeks Dudney earned the player-of-the-week accolade, as it is the second highest total in the league in 2013. Espindola received the rookie-of-the-week recognition for the second time in as many weeks, and is tied for tops in the conference with the two rookie honors.

Dudney scored a pair of goals during two games last week, and had an assist for a five-point stretch. He scored a goal, and assisted on another to help spark last Tuesday’s 4-2 win over Saint Michael’s, while booting in a penalty kick goal in Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over New Haven.

Dudney leads the team in goals (5) and points (12) this season, while ranking second on the squad in assists (2).

Espindola trails Dudney for the team lead in the goals department by just one, thanks in large part to a three-goal outburst during both contests last week.

The rookie forward struck home two goals in the win over Saint Michael’s, and fired off the winning tally in Saturday’s game against the Chargers. He has scored all four of his goals over the last four matches, and has logged 25 shots during that time.

Franklin Pierce (8-6, 7-4 NE-10), which has won five of its last six contests, returns to action Wednesday night when the Ravens travel to North Andover, Mass. to take on Merrimack at 7 p.m.
