Men's Soccer Wins Third in a Row with 3-0 Blanking of Saint Anselm

Ravens have outscored the opposition 9-0 during its three-game streak

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 16, 2013) – Pedro Espindola (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and George Levantakis (Lynnfield, Mass.) each scored a goal and assisted on the other’s to lead the Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team to a 3-0 blanking of Saint Anselm on Wednesday night in Manchester.

The Ravens won their third straight to improve to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks dipped to 2-8 and 1-7 in league play. Franklin Pierce has outscored the opposition a combined 9-0 during its three-game streak.

Franklin Pierce produced a 22-6 advantage in shots, including putting 10 of those on net. Senior Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass.) and rookie Dallas Donovan (South Yarmouth, Mass.) each fired off five shots, and it was the latter who got the scoring started for the Ravens in the 27th minute. Donovan notched his team-leading fourth goal of the season, and his third in the last two matches, as he struck home a crossing pass from graduate forward Ryan Ruffing (Westborough, Mass.), who was credited with an assist on the play.

The goal was all junior keeper Sam Meza (Whittier, Calif.) needed to make Franklin Pierce’s lead stand up, as he turned aside a pair of St. A’s scoring chances to cap his third-straight shutout win and improve to 6-5 on the year. All six wins have come via the shutout variety.

Levantakis and Espindola made sure to put the match out of reach in the final four minutes with a pair of goals. Levantakis scored his first career collegiate marker in the 86th minute when he took Espindola’s crossing pass and blasted a sharp shot to the left post that St. A’s keeper Mark Kotsopoulos had no chance at stopping.

Levantakis returned the favor at the buzzer as he sent a pass to Espindola, who tucked a shot inside the same left post to beat the buzzer. It was Espindola’s first career collegiate marker as well.

Espindola finished with three shots, while Levantakis’ marker came on his only attempt of the evening. Both had three points on the night.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens play host to Adelphi at 3 p.m. on Sodexo Field in Rindge.
