Tabares has now logged nine points in the last three matches

Diego Tabares scored a pair of goals Wednesday. He has scored at least one goal in each of the last three matches.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 5, 2011) – Senior midfielder Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) scored a pair of goals on Wednesday night to lift the No. 2-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team to a satisfying 3-1 road win over Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn. The win ran the Ravens' record to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the Northeast-10, while SCSU dipped to 4-5 and 3-3 in league play.

Tabares has been on a hot streak, offensively, over the past three matches as he has scored four goals and assisted on another for nine points. He isn't the only Raven to be on an offensive roll over the past three matches as classmate Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has put his name on the score sheet frequently with two goals and two assists for six points during that span. Both players were at it again Wednesday night in helping to guide the Ravens to victory.

Goncalves got the scoring started in the 21^st minute when he dribbled deep into the box and slipped a shot low side underneath the Owls goalkeeper for a 1-0 Franklin Pierce lead. It was Goncalves' fifth goal of the season, which also gave him 13 points for the campaign.

Tabares then took over the offensive firepower for the Ravens early in the second half to put his team up 3-0. He scored his first goal of the match in the 53^rd minute and his second just five minutes later. Tabares' first tally was an unassisted effort as he scored 20 yards out from the left corner. Tabares' second marker came off a nifty crossing pass from junior Greg Giguere (East Bridgewater, Mass.), which he was able to field in front of the goal and fire it past the SCSU keeper. Giguere was credited with an assist on the play, while Tabares moved into a tie with Goncalves for the team lead in goals with five.

Southern Connecticut State did get on the board in the 81^st minute when Luke Perry notched a goal off of pass from Yoni Feldman. The marker snapped Franklin Pierce's streak of four-consecutive shutouts. However, the Ravens would not let the Owls threaten the rest of the way in sealing the win.

Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) made one save to earn the win and run his record to 10-0 on the season.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday night when they play host to New Haven at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
