Diego Tabares and Victor Goncalves each have a three-point evening for the Ravens

Victor Goncalves had a goal and an assist for a three-point night on Tuesday. He moved into the team lead in goals (4) and points (10).

RINDGE, N.H. (September 27, 2011) – The third-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team won its eighth game in a row with a 2-0 triumph over Saint Rose on Tuesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights dipped to 0-8 and 0-5 in league play.

After a slow start Franklin Pierce came alive over the final minutes of the first half and took a 1-0 lead in the 39^th minute when senior midfielder Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) slipped a pass over to classmate Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who dribbled down the right side into the box and fired off a shot to the lower right corner of the goal for the tally. It was Goncalves' third goal in the last two matches which moved him into the team lead with four on the season.

Franklin Pierce outshot the Golden Knights, 10-1, in the opening 45 minutes, including firing off eight of those in the final 22 minutes of the half.

It didn't take long for the Ravens to extend their lead to 2-0 as it came on the first shot of the second half, just 38 seconds into the stanza. Goncalves and Tabares swapped roles on this occasion with Goncalves slipping a pass to Tabares at the top of the box, which he fired into the center of the net for his second goal of the season. Goncalves' assist on the play was his 10^th point of the season, also tops on the team. Each player had a three-point evening to spark the Franklin Pierce offensive attack.

The Ravens' backs held Saint Rose at bay the rest of the way and did not allow the Golden Knights an opportunity to get back into the match. For the contest, Franklin Pierce held a 15-2 advantage in shots, including getting six from Goncalves and five from Tabares.

None of Saint Rose's shots went on goal as senior keeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) did not need to make a save in earning his third-straight shutout victory to improve to 8-0.

Franklin Pierce improved to 20-0-1 in its last 21 regular season matches dating back to last season. Dating back to the 2009 season, the Ravens are 29-1-2 in their last 32 regular season matches.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens travel to face Saint Anselm in Manchester at 2 p.m.
