Tom Reilly named to first-team; Paul Latif named to second-team; Diego Tabares named to third-team

RINDGE, N.H. (December 13, 2010) – Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer standouts Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England), Paul Latif (Newcastle, England) and Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) on Monday were named 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-Americans. Reilly was placed on the first-team, while Latif and Tabares were named to the second and third-teams, respectively.

It marked the second time in the last three weeks the trio was named to an All-America team, as they also earned the honor from the Daktronics organization back on Dec. 2.

Reilly earned a spot on the NSCAA All-America First-Team after he helped anchor one of the top defensive units in the country this past season. The Ravens’ backs ranked second in the nation in team goals against average at 0.55, while also ranking ninth in team save percentage at 0.848. Overall, Franklin Pierce produced 11 shutouts this season. Reilly also helped out on the offensive end as he assisted on a pair of goals in Franklin Pierce’s 5-1 win over Merrimack in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals, which helped jumpstart the teams run to the conference championship.

The NSCAA honor was the latest in a long line of awards for Reilly this season. In addition to picking up the two All-America honors listed above, Reilly also garnered the following accolades: 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year; 2010 Daktronics East Region Player of the Year; selected to the 2010 All-Northeast-10 First-Team; selected to the 2010 Daktronics All-East Region First-Team; named to the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference All-Championship Team.

Latif earned a spot on the NSCAA second-team after producing one of the top offensive seasons in the conference and the nation in 2010. He scored five goals and assisted on 10 others for 20 points, while ranking seventh in the nation in assists and 22^nd in assists per match (0.48). He was also a major offensive force for the Ravens during their seven-match winning streak midway through the season as he factored into each of the game-winning goals (4 g, 3 a).

Latif’s two All-America honors come on the heels of him being named to both the Northeast-10 Conference and Daktronics East Region First-Teams back in November.

Tabares was placed on the NSCAA third-team following a strong offensive season, which saw him score five goals and assist on three more for 13 points. He ranked among the league leaders in goals and points.

In addition to the two All-America awards Tabares has earned in December, he also racked up several other individual honors this year, including being named to the Northeast-10 Conference and Daktronics East Region First-Teams.

All three players will return to Franklin Pierce for their senior campaigns in 2011.

Franklin Pierce produced one of the finest seasons in program history in 2010. The Ravens won the Northeast-10 Conference regular season and tournament championships, were ranked No. 1 in the nation midway through the season, earned the No. 1 seed in Super Region I in the NCAA Division II Tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament. The conference titles were the first for the program since 2006, and the trip to the national quarters was the team’s first since the 2007 campaign.
