Five Men's Soccer Players Earn Daktronics All-America Honors; Tom Reilly Named to the First-Team

Four of the five will return for the Ravens in 2011

RINDGE, N.H. (December 2, 2010) -- Five members of the 2010 Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team garnered Daktronics Division II All-America honors on Thursday, as announced by the organization in conjunction with AthleticSite.com(.)

The five Ravens to earn recognition, included junior back Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England), who was named a First-Team All-American. A trio of Ravens earned third-team honors, including junior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.), junior midfielder Paul Latif (Newcastle, England) and junior forward Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.). Senior back Shaliek Dawkins (Kingston, Jamaica) earned honorable-mention honors.

Reilly had an outstanding 2010 campaign as he was named the player of the year by both the Northeast-10 Conference and the Daktronics East Region Committee. He also earned first-team honors from both organizations. Reilly helped solidify a defensive unit in 2010, which ranked among the national leaders in team goals against average (3rd), team save percentage (9th) and shutout percentage (11th). He also chipped in on the offensive end throughout the season as he assisted on a pair of goals in Franklin Pierce's 5-1 triumph over Merrimack in the first round of the NE-10 Tournament. That win helped propel the Ravens to the program's first conference title since 2006.

Papageorgiou, who earned Second-Team All-Northeast-10 honors, was strong in goal throughout the year as he ranked among the top-10 nationally in goals against average (4th, 0.553) and save percentage (9th, 0.848). He led the league with 11 shutouts, while ranking second in save percentage. Overall, Papageorgiou compiled an impressive 17-2-2 record.

Latif recorded five goals and 10 assists for 20 points this season, as he ranked seventh nationally in assists. He ranked among the league leaders in shots (1st), shots per game (3rd), points (T-4th), points per game (10th), assists (1st), assists per game (1st) and game-winning goals (T-2nd), as he earned first-team all-conference honors. Latif was a major factor in Franklin Pierce's seven-match winning streak midway through the season as he factored into the game-winning goal in all seven matches (4 g, 3 a).

Tabares was another important contributor for the Ravens' offensive attack this year as he had five goals and three assists for 13 points. He, too, earned first-team honors from the NE-10.

Dawkins helped anchor Franklin Pierce's defensive unit this season as the Ravens were among the national leaders in the defensive categories listed above. Dawkins was named to the All-NE-10 First-Team following the regular season.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men's soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process began at the regional level with all first-team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. The five Ravens listed above earned First-Team All-East Region honors from Daktronics.

Franklin Pierce concluded the 2010 season with a 17-2-2 overall record, while also winning the Northeast-10 Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Ravens were also ranked No. 1 in the nation for several weeks during the season, and advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals.
