RINDGE, N.H. (November 3, 2010) – Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer standout Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second-Team for his efforts on the field, but more importantly in the classroom. It marks the second major accolade for Goncalves this week, as on Monday, he was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second-Team.

In the classroom, Goncalves is a business major and sports an impressive 3.68 cumulative grade point average. On the field, he is one of the top players in the Northeast-10 and has scored five goals this season, including one in Tuesday night’s thrilling 5-1 win over Merrimack in the quarterfinals of the NE-10 tournament.

Wednesday’s academic honor marks the third-straight year Goncalves has been recognized for his studies. He was placed on the Northeast-10 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll during his freshman and sophomore seasons, while also earning a spot on the NE-10 Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team in 2009.

Goncalves serves as one of three captains on the 2010 Franklin Pierce men’s soccer team, which is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in the NSCAA Division II Top-25 Poll. The Ravens are back in action Friday afternoon when they play host to Le Moyne in the semifinals of the NE-10 Championship. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children and seniors and $1 for college students (w/ ID) of the competing schools. Franklin Pierce students who present their ID at the gate will have the cost of their ticket covered, courtesy of the Athletics Department.
