#14 Men's Soccer Drops OT Heartbreaker at Dowling 1-0
Diego Tabares records team-high three shots, followed by Paul Latif and Tom Reilly with two apiece
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (September 7, 2010) - The No.
14-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce men's soccer team droppd a
heart-breaking 1-0 overtime decision to Dowling on Tuesday night in
Brookhaven, N.Y. The Ravens' two-game winning streak was halted as
they fell to 2-1 on the season, while Dowling improved to 2-0.
Keith Vigorido's goal in the 91st minute was the only score needed
to propel Dowling to victory. The goal came despite a strong
defensive effort by the Ravens, who limited Dowling to just eight
shots, with that score being the only shot on goal allowed in the
contest. Vigorido's tally came from five yards out as he took a
cross pass from the right side and slid it into the bottom left
corner of the net.
Franklin Pierce managed 11 shots, including three from
Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.), and two apiece
from Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England) and
Paul Latif (Newcastle, England). However, just two
of those 11 shots were able to be put on goal.
Dowling goalkeeper Chris Kucera earned the win after making both
saves to preserve the shutout.
Franklin Pierce has a weekend bye coming up and will return to
action next Tuesday when it travels to face UMass-Lowell in a 7
p.m. kickoff.
