RINDGE, N.H. (November 3, 2009) – The third-seeded Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team will travel to face second-seeded Le Moyne on Wednesday for the semifinals of the 2009 Northeast-10 Tournament. The match will begin at 1 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.

The winner of Wednesday’s semifinal will advance to host the 2009 Northeast-10 Tournament Championship on Saturday. By virtue of top-seeded Southern New Hampshire falling to eighth-seed Saint Anselm, 1-0 on Sunday, Le Moyne and Franklin Pierce are the top-two seeds remaining in the post-season tournament. Wednesday’s other semifinal match will pit No. 8-seed Saint Anselm at No. 4-seed Southern Connecticut State.

Franklin Pierce (12-3-3) finds itself in the semis of the NE-10 Tournament following Sunday’s thrilling 0-0 draw, which ultimately ended in the Ravens winning via a shootout (4-2). Following 110:00 of scoreless soccer, Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.), Paul Latif (Newcastle, England), Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Frantz Francois (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each scored in the shootout to lift Franklin Pierce to victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou ( Wilmington, Mass.) got off to a shaky start in the shootout by allowing goals on the first two shots he faced. However, he rose to the occasion when his team needed him the most by deflecting the next two shots to preserve the shootout lead for Franklin Pierce.

Le Moyne (15-2-2) advanced to the semis with its 1-0 win over seventh-seeded Bentley on Sunday. Jesse Carr scored the game’s lone tally to carry the Dolphins to the win.

Franklin Pierce and Le Moyne will be meeting for the second time this season. The Dolphins pulled off a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Ravens back on Sept. 23 in Syracuse. Nicholas Schibly (Litchfield, N.H.) staked the Ravens to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute with a goal, but the Dolphins scored two unanswered goals in the second half to earn the win.

That setback was the last time Franklin Pierce has tasted defeat. Since the loss, the Ravens are in the midst of a nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2) and have out-scored the opposition, 20-6, during that time.

Franklin Pierce will be led into Wednesday’s contest by eight players who garnered all-conference honors last Friday. Francois, Goncalves and senior back Kevin Neumen (Miller Place, N.Y.) were named to the Northeast-10 First-Team, while Tabares, Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England) and Shaliek Dawkins (Kingston, Jamaica) were named to the conference’s second-team. Sam Kelley (Bedford, N.H.) and Tyler Rosa (Rehoboth, Mass.) were named the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team as well.
