RINDGE, N.H. (October 29, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s and women’s soccer teams will each host their respective first-round games of the 2009 Northeast-10 Tournament this Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field on the Rindge campus.

The No. 2-seed women’s team will play host to Saint Anselm at 1 p.m., while the No. 3-seed men’s team will take on Assumption at 4 p.m.

Ticket prices for the post-season tournament are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, children and students of the opposing schools. Franklin Pierce students can attend the games for FREE by presenting their student ID at the gate.

The match will also be broadcast live on WFPC-LP 105.3 FM and also streamed over the internet at athletics.franklinpierce.edu.

The women’s team is led by senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil), who leads all levels of the NCAA (Divisions I, II & III) with 27 goals scored (statistical rankings as of Oct. 25). Another scoring threat up front for the Ravens is junior forward Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden), who has totaled 14 goals on the season. On the back end is senior defender Rachel Smith (Chichester, N.H.), who is one of the top defensive players in the nation and has chipped in for three goals and six points this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lennox, Mass.) has been solid in net for Franklin Pierce this season as she has recorded a 9-1-0 record with six shutouts.

Franklin Pierce defeated Saint Anselm during the regular season (Oct. 20) by a score of 1-0. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) scored with 24 seconds remaining to lift the Ravens to the victory.

The men’s team – who is riding an eight-game unbeaten streak (7-0-1) heading into the playoffs – is led by graduate midfielder Frantz Francois (West Palm Beach, Fla.), as he has scored 10 goals on the year which is tied for fourth most in the Northeast-10 Conference. A pair of defenders, junior Shaliek Dawkins (Kingston, Jamaica) and graduate Kevin Neumen (Miller Place, N.Y.), serve as a strong back wall for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) has produced a 10-2-1 record this season with seven shut-out victories.

The Ravens and Greyhounds will be meeting for the second time in a little more than a week as Franklin Pierce closed out its regular season with a 1-0 triumph this past Saturday at Sodexo Field. Sophomore midfielder Diego Tabares (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored the game’s lone goal to give the Ravens the victory.

The winners of this Sunday’s two contests will advance to the semifinals of the NE-10 Tournament. The men’s semifinal matches will be held next Wednesday, while the women’s semis will be played next Thursday. The men’s championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, while the women’s will be played the following day on Nov. 8. The highest seeds in each contest on both the men’s and women’s side will serve as the host school.
