Men's Soccer Defeats Saint Rose, 5-0, on Saturday Night

Ravens score season-high five goals in the win

BOXSCORE

RINDGE, N.H. (October 10, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team ran their unbeaten streak to five-straight games (4-0-1) on Saturday night with a 5-0 win over Saint Rose at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H. The Ravens improved to 9-3-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Golden Knights dipped to 2-10-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the league.

Graduate back Kevin Neuman (Miller Place, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), freshman midfielder Tyler Rosa (Rehoboth, Mass.), freshman forward Collins Appau (Worcester, Mass.) and graduate midfielder Frantz Francois (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each scored a goal to pace the Ravens in the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout victory and raise his record to 7-2-1 on the year.

Neumen put Franklin Pierce on top, 1-0, in the eighth minute when he collected a rebound in front of the net and blasted it past the Saint Rose goalkeeper for his second goal of the season. The rebound that Neumen scored off of came from a shot from Appau.

The Ravens held a 1-0 lead late in the contest, but then the flood gates opened as they scored four more goals in the waning minutes to give them a season-high for goals in a match. Goncalves made it 2-0 Franklin Pierce in the 67th minute when he collected the ball between the circles, dribbled around the defense to the right corner, and chipped in a shot for his fifth goal of the season.

Rosa notched his goal in the 85th minute as he scored off a rebound that had slammed off the post. It marked the first collegiate goal of his career.

Appau scored his goal in the 89th minute as he took a pass from Francois at the top of the box and slid it by the goalkeeper for his second tally of the season.

Francois then made it a three-point night for him with his goal in the 90th minute. That goal was his team-leading seventh of the season and capped the late flurry of scores for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to face Bentley at 3:30 p.m. For more information on Franklin Pierce men’s soccer, please visit the team’s page at athletics.franklinpierce.edu(.)
