Men's Soccer Knocks Off AIC, 2-1, on Tuesday Night
Latif and Goncalves record three points each

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2009) – The
Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer team ran its unbeaten
streak to four games (3-0-1) on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win at
American International College. The Ravens improved to 8-3-2
overall and 6-2-1 in the Northeast-10. AIC fell to 5-8-0 and 2-5-0
in the league.
The game capped a streak of five-straight road games for the
Ravens. The young team fared well by going 3-1-1.
Sophomore midfielder Paul Latif (Newcastle,
England) scored once and assisted on another goal for a
three-point night. His lone goal was the contest’s first
tally at the 4:22 mark to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead. It marked the
second goal Latif registered this season.
Sophomore midfielder Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil) assisted on Latif’s goal. The initial goal
scorer returned the favor at the 50:44 mark when Latif assisted
Goncalves on a goal to put Franklin Pierce up 2-0. It was
Goncalves’ fourth goal of the season, which is tied with
Diego Tabares (Seekonk, Mass.) for the second most
on the team.
AIC got a goal on a penalty kick late in the contest, but Franklin
Pierce sophomore goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington,
Mass.) made six saves throughout the contest to help his
team’s early lead stand up. The win ran Papageorgiou’s
record to 6-2-1 on the season. The Yellow Jackets held a 15-8
advantage in shots.
The Ravens return home to Sodexo Field for the first time in nearly
a month on Saturday night when they play host to Saint Rose at 7
