RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2008) - Defending NCAA Division II Champion Franklin Pierce University extended its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action this afternoon at Sodexo Field.

The win extends Franklin Pierce's unbeaten streak in regular season NE-10 matches to 20 (17-0-3) dating back to October 2006, and runs its unbeaten streak in regular season NE-10 matches at home to 30 (27-0-3) dating back to October 2003.

Freshman forward Viktor Gonçalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) netted the lone goal and classmate Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) made four saves in goal to preserve the victory and his third-straight shutout. Papageorgiou hasn't allowed a goal in his last 351:47 in net dating back to the 29th minute of a 5-1 win over The College of Saint Rose on September 16.

Freshman Viktor Goncalves scored the lone goal late in the first half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made nine saves for Stonehill - who was out-shot 15-7 for the match, but kept shots even at 6-6 in the second half.

The lone goal of the match came with just over ten minutes to play in the first half as grad student Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H./Taft School) took a shot from the right side at the top of the 18, which got past McFarlane and was tapped in at the left post by Gonçalves at the 34:45-mark. The goal is the NE-10 leading seventh of the season for Gonçalves.

Stonehill pressed forward late in regulation for an equalizer, forcing a pair of Papageorgiou saves off headers with under 15-minutes to play and sophomore Tyler Hebert (Rockland, Mass./Sacred Heart) had a long range shot from 35-yards out skim off the top of the crossbar in the 86th minute.

Franklin Pierce (5-4-1, 4-0-1 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Saint Anselm College at 4 p.m. That match was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but pushed back a day due to this afternoon's postponement. The Ravens return home on Saturday to host Mercy College in a non-conference battle at 7 p.m. Stonehill (2-4-1, 1-4-0 NE-10) hosts Mercy on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
