RINDGE, N.H. (October 1, 2008) - Defending NCAA Division II Champion Franklin Pierce University edged Saint Anselm College, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Melucci Field this afternoon.

Freshman back Michael Busto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou Academy) scored the winning goal with just 7:32 to play in regulation as Franklin Pierce extends its unbeaten streak in NE-10 regular season matches to 21 (18-0-3) dating back to October 14, 2006. Freshman back Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England) also scored for the Ravens.

win with one save for Franklin Pierce, while junior John Corridan (Holliston, Mass./Skidmore) made three stops for Saint Anselm. Franklin Pierce posted a 15-6 advantage in shots for the match, including a 10-4 margin in the second half.

Busto's winner marked the first collegiate goal for the freshman as he knocked in a loose ball at the doorstep after junior Kensaku Tsuji (Tokushima, Japan) lost control of the ball inside the penalty area after a combination play with freshman Viktor Gonçalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in the 83rd minute.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when Reilly stole a pass and netted his second goal of the season. Saint Anselm equalized just 1:24 into the second half with an unassisted goal from senior Sam Lamptey (Worcester, Mass./Worcester North). The Lamptey goal snapped a shutout streak of 398:11 for the Ravens, and Papageorgiou, who had posted three-straight shutouts during a five-match unbeaten run.

Franklin Pierce (6-4-1, 5-0-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Mercy College in a non-conference battle at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm (3-6-1, 1-3-1 NE-10) travels to The College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 2 p.m.
