Torstensson Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors

Franklin Pierce men's soccer standout selected to College Division District I second team

RINDGE, N.H. (November 20, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University sophomore midfielder Johan Torstensson (Falköping, Sweden) has earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I men's soccer second team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in New England and New York.

Torstensson's selection gives the Franklin Pierce men's soccer team 21 Academic All-District selections in program history. Torstensson, who earns Academic All-District honors for the first time, has achieved a 3.88 cumulative grade point average as a pre-med major at the University. He is a Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll Gold Scholar and has earned a spot on the Franklin Pierce Athletic Department honor roll each of the first two semesters he has been enrolled.

Torstensson started 18 of the 22 matches he appeared in for Franklin Pierce this season. The defensive midfielder totaled a goal and assist for three points and was part of a defensive unit which ranks second in the Northeast-10 with nine shutouts to go with a 1.09 team goals against average (5th NE-10). Torstensson's lone goal of the season was the match-winner in the Ravens 1-0 double-overtime victory over Le Moyne College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Torstensson earned All-Northeast-10 third team honors for the second-straight season this fall. He was named the Jeff Burstein Man-of-the-Match in Franklin Pierce's regular season contest with the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Torstensson also maintains a weekly blog for www.ncaa.com.

In 44 career matches over two seasons at Franklin Pierce, Torstensson has totaled three goals and four assists for ten points, with two of his three career goals match-winners. He started 22 of the Ravens 23 matches during their National Championship run, including the national title match - a 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial to deliver the program's first championship.

Franklin Pierce (13-8-2, 9-3-1 NE-10) earned its sixth-straight NCAA Division II Tournament bid this season, advancing to the second round. The Ravens placed third in the NE-10.
