Grier Named NE-10 Freshman of the Week

Norwell, Mass., native leads Ravens to comeback win on Saturday

RINDGE, N.H. (October 27, 2003) -  Franklin Pierce freshman midfielder Jason Grier (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) was named the Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer Freshman of the Week by the Conference office this afternoon.

Grier, who earns the award for the first time, led the No. 16-ranked Ravens to a 3-2 comeback victory over American International College on Saturday as he netted the first two goals of his collegiate career, including the match-winner in the 74th minute.

Franklin Pierce, which was frustrated by the Yellow Jackets offside trapping defensive scheme for a remarkable 17 offside whistles in the opening half (23 total), trailed 2-0 at the intermission. Grier, who came off the bench in the 21st minute, put the Ravens on the board 6:31 into the second half with his first career marker. After Franklin Pierce knotted the score at the 72:22-mark, Grier notched the winner exactly one minute later.

Grier's four points (two goals) in seven matches (no starts) this season lead all Franklin Pierce freshmen and are good for sixth on the team overall.

Franklin Pierce (10-5-1, 10-2 NE-10), ranked third in the New England Region this week, is locked into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Ravens face No. 20 Bentley College (12-4-1, 8-3-1 NE-10), ranked second in New England, on Thursday night at Southern New Hampshire University's Penman Field at 7 p.m.
