Franklin Pierce Cruises to Key Win Over Bryant, 5-1

Schwarz totals six points, Takefusa five, to lead Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2002) - Franklin Pierce grad student Chris Schwarz (Babenhausen, Germany) totaled six points to lead the Ravens, ranked sixth in the New England region, to a key 5-1 victory over Bryant College, ranked seventh in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

Schwarz, who entered the match with seven points this season, nearly doubled that total as he netted a pair of goals and assisted on two others to lead Franklin Pierce to the key Conference victory.

Schwarz assisted on two first-half goals from junior striker Bjorgolfor Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland) with a pair of excellent through balls that sent Takefusa in on breakaways with Bryant sophomore goalkeeper James Purpura. The first marker came just 10:22 into the match and the second in the 33rd minute, a goal in which Takefusa was sent in but needed to deke one defender before unleashing the shot.

Bryant trimmed the lead to 2-1 just 4:50 into the second half as junior forward Clint Stonacek one-timed a flick on from sophomore Michael Amania into the lower-left corner of the net.

The Ravens regained control from there, putting the match away with two Schwarz goals in a 72-second span midway through the half. The first came at the 62:54-mark as Takefusa's direct kick was headed towards the net by junior Sean McCabe (Derry City, Northern Ireland) where Schwarz knocked it home at the far post.

Schwarz struck again when sophomore Michael Black (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) found him on the far post again with a serve at the 64:06-mark. The assist was the first career point for Black.

Junior Felix Brillant (Montreal, Quebec) rounded out the scoring for Franklin Pierce when he curled in a direct kick from 20-yards out into the left side of the net in the 71st minute.

Ravens junior goalkeeper Domenico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) matched a career-high set earlier this season with seven saves. Purpura registered three saves while yielding four markers in 66-minutes of work before giving way to junior Wes Rawding who posted one stop.

Franklin Pierce (7-3-4, 4-2-4 NE-10) returns to the pitch on Monday when it travels to Easton, Mass., for a match with Stonehill College at 3:30 p.m. Bryant (7-8, 6-6 NE-10) travels to Assumption College next Saturday.
