Franklin Pierce Men's Soccer Team Nips Le Moyne, 3-2
Schwarz Scores Twice, Including Game-Winner in 87th minute
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2000) - Chris Schwarz (Babenhausen, Germany) scored his second goal of the game with under four minutes remaining to help Franklin Pierce to a 3-2 win over Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer match.
While the loss eliminates the Dolphins (6-9-1, 5-7-1 Northeast-10) from playoff contention in the eight-team N-10 Conference tournament, the win boosts the Ravens (13-4, 10-3 Northeast-10) into third place.
Franklin Pierce opens the tournament In Rindge on Tuesday (2 p.m., Crystal Field) against UMass Lowell. The Ravens beat the River Hawks, 4-3, during the regular season.
Schwarz opened the scoring yesterday 29 minutes into the contest when he finished off a crossing pass from Tate Travis (Detriot, Mich.) to hand the Ravens a 1-0 edge. Sophomore Richard Gordon (Glasgow, Scotland) made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal 22 minutes into the second half.
Le Moyne rallied with a pair of goals in a six-minute span during the second half. Junior Francesco Riverso (Syracuse, N.Y.) floated a shot from 25 yards out that trickled under the crossbar for the first Dolphin goal. With eight minutes remaining in the contest, he settled a pass from his twin brother,Jimmy Riverso (Syracuse, N.Y.) and whistled it across the penalty box where Ed Negron (Levittown, N.Y.) connected for the equalizer.
Franklin Pierce scored the game-winner when freshman midfielder Felix Brillant, Jr. (Montreal, Quebec) streaked into the offensive zone and played a crossing pass to Schwarz.
