Carney, Ravens Dominate in All-Around Effort

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 24, 2017) – Junior attack Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) led the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team with a career-high seven points as the Ravens defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College 16-2 on Friday evening. The win evens the Crimson and Grey's conference mark at 1-1 and improves their early season overall record to 3-1 while the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-10, 0-5 NE10.

Carney was one of three Raven players to tally three scores. His four assists were a personal-best and also tied the programs single game assist mark last set by current teammate Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) on March 29, 2016 at Saint Anselm College. The seven points that Carney amassed tied for the sixth most in a single game as he matched former teammate Casey Burnett's mark set almost a year ago versus this same Yellow Jacket team at Sodexo Field.

Joining Carney with three goals were Castorf, who also added an assist and junior midfielder Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) who scored the 50th goal of his career at the 6:46 mark in the first quarter after corralling a feed by Anthony D'Aprile (Smithtown, N.Y.). Delea currently ranks 10th all-time in Ravens history in goals scored (51) and tied for 11th in total points (69).

D'Aprile and freshman middie Colin Doherty (Reading, Mass.) scored two goals apiece with Doherty's scores counting as his first and second of his collegiate career.

The Ravens 14 goal margin of victory was the fifth best in program annals.  Their 16 goals scored tied for the 11th most during a single game in program history matching the 16 goal performance versus AIC last season on March 26th.

The Raven defensive unit played stifling ball hawking defensive the whole contest as they caused four turnovers, scooped up 27 loose balls and allowed only two goals to be scored the entire game while pitching a second half shutout. Junior Connor Wacksman (Guilderland, N.Y.) started in the cage for FPU and made six saves in 36:00 minutes while increasing his record to 3-1 on the young year. Classmate Matthew Pinto (Babylon, N.Y.) relieved Wacksman in net and stopped two shot attempts.

Franklin Pierce was also a season best 16-of-17 (94.1%) on clear attempts and were a combined 12-of-21 (57.1%) from the faceoff x which was also a year high.

The Ravens will return to Sodexo Field on Tuesday when they look to end the month of March on a high note against Saint Anselm at 3:30 p.m.
