Men’s Lacrosse Sails Past Georgian Court, 16-5

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (March 16, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team nearly tripled the Georgian Court Lions' score on Tuesday afternoon, with senior attack Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) and freshman midfielder Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) each recording hat tricks in the Ravens win in a non-conference match-up at the GCU Track and Field Complex, 16-5.

With the win, the Ravens advance their record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Lions fall 0-7 on the season.

Franklin Pierce sophomore goalkeeper Connor Wacksman (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked the win in the day's decision, advancing his record 2-0, while Georgian Court freshman keeper Logan Eisenhart took the loss on the day, falling to an 0-7 record.

The Ravens scored the first seven goals of the game over the first quarter-and-a-half, with Castorf and Burnett each notching two goals. The Lions first goal was scored in the last five minutes of the half, when junior attackman Cory Boyle came through with a man-up goal, cutting the lead to 7-1 heading into halftime.

The Ravens owned the third quarter, as senior midfielder Brendan Caldeira (Sandwich, Mass.) started the scoring, with sophomore midfielder Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) added the assist. Caldeira also added a man-up goal later, as the Ravens went on a 7-0 run through the quarter. Burnett picked up his third point of the day -- and recorded the 100th point of his career -- with an assist on the man-up tally.

Entering the fourth quarter with a score of 14-1, the Lions made their attempt at a comeback. Freshman Brandon Razler had the first goal of the quarter, and Boyle recorded two goals, but Georgian Court was unable to cut into the deficit of the first three quarters and fell, 16-5.

Leading the Ravens in scoring were both Castorf and Burnett, with three goals each, while Caldeira and sophomore midfielder Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) had two goals each. Palumbo also collected eight ground balls and won nearly 70% (9-13) of his faceoffs.

Boyle led the Lions with three of the team's five goals, while junior Oliver Stoudt collected five ground balls.

The Ravens play next at Bentley on Saturday, March 19, in a Northeast-10 conference game at 1 p.m.
