Men’s Lacrosse Leaves Saint Michael’s Behind in Second Half to Post 15-7 Win

Dargin joins 100-point club

Noonan Noonan piled up seven points on Tuesday against Saint Michael's, his third-highest total of the season.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 7, 2015) – Up just a pair at halftime on Tuesday afternoon, the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team used four second-half goals from senior attack Kevin Dargin (Littleton, Mass.) and three second-half points each from senior attack Eddie Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior attack Casey Burnett (Windham, N.H.) to key a nine-goal second half and win going away, 15-7, at home against Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman midfielder Patch Ryan and sophomore midfielder Ben Overslaugh scored twice each in defeat for Saint Michael's.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-2 (6-2 Northeast-10) and has now won four in a row for the second time this season, while Saint Michael's falls to 4-5 (3-4 Northeast-10).

Trailing 4-3 with 7:25 to play in the second quarter, Franklin Pierce scored the final three goals of the first half and the first three of the second half to surge to a 9-4 lead and take control of the game. Noonan struck with 4:24 to play in the second quarter, and then picked the top-right corner off of an assist by senior midfielder Erik Kelly (Tewksbury, Mass.) in a man-up situation with 2:13 remaining. Strong ball movement led to the stanza's final tally, as Noonan set up the first of Dargin's game-high five goals.

Coming out to start the third quarter, Noonan set up Dargin again, this time in a man-up situation 4:13 into the frame. Just 22 seconds later, bang-bang passing worked the ball into the goalmouth for Burnett, who slammed the ball home to create Noonan's third straight assist. Noonan would make it four straight helpers to cap his seven-point day (3-4-7), as he set up Dargin another 65 seconds later to finish off the 6-0 run.

Dargin finished with five goals on the day, the last of which was his 100th career point. He becomes the third player in program history to top 100 points. Dargin's five points, Noonan's seven and Burnett's four (3-1-4) did most of the damage for the Ravens on Tuesday, as they were the only members of the team to collect more than two points. In other facets of the game, freshman midfielder Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Robert Meyers (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) picked up six ground balls each, while freshman long-stick Chris Morales (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and junior defender Malcolm Sutton (Hooksett, N.H.) caused two turnovers each.

In addition to Ryan and Overslaugh each scoring two goals, junior attack Mark Yetter dished out two assists for Saint Michael's. The trio marked the only Purple Knights with multiple points on the day. Freshman midfielder Spencer Ralston took faceoffs throughout the game for Saint Michael's and finished with a game-high seven ground balls, while sophomore defender Salvatore Loris collected five more and caused a pair of turnovers.

Senior goalkeeper Don Denman (Exeter, N.H.) finished with 13 saves against 20 shots to pick up the win (9-2) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Nick Burgio (Hillsboro, N.H.) logged just over a minute in net while Denman served a penalty in the second quarter, and stopped the only shot against him, which maintained a 2-1 Franklin Pierce lead at the time.

At the other end of the field, junior T.J. Bicknell finished with 11 saves against 26 shots and took the loss (4-5) in the crease for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, April 14, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Larkin Field in Manchester, N.H.
