Men's Lacrosse Drops First Game of the Season; Falls to #8 Mercy on Wednesday

Matthew Leslie goes for goal and an assist; first multi-point game of the season

BOXSCORE

DANBURY, Conn. (March 16, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2011 season on Wednesday as the Ravens fell, 22-4, to No. 8-nationally ranked Mercy College at Rogers Park in Danbury, Conn. Franklin Pierce dipped to 2-1 on the season, while Mercy improved to 5-0.

Mercy scored the game's first nine goals and took a 10-1 lead into the intermission to pull away early for the win.

Franklin Pierce tallied its first goal with 40 seconds left in the first half as freshman midfielder Edward Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) fed a pass over to senior middie Matthew Leslie (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), who fired a shot past Mercy goaltender T.J. DiCarlo.

Noonan tallied the Ravens next goal, at the 9:49 mark of the third quarter, as he beat DiCarlo with a shot pass the goalie's stick handle. It marked the second-straight multi-point game for Noonan, who scored three times last week in a 9-8 win over Dominican. He was named the NE-10's Rookie of the Week for that accomplishment. In fact, Noonan has registered at least one point in each of his first three collegiate games.

Junior midfielder Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) logged Franklin Pierce's third goal with 3:22 left in the third as he scored off a pass from Leslie, who got credit for an assist on the play, marking his first multi-point game of the season.

Junior attackman Eric Harries (Dunstable, Mass.) scored the Ravens final goal of the game, which came with under two minutes remaining in the contest. The marker extended Harries' streak of three-straight games with at least one goal.

Franklin Pierce rookie Tim Izzo (Trumbull, Conn.) started in goal and was saddled with the loss as he yielded 17 goals, while making 10 saves, in a little over 40 minutes of action. Senior goalie Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y.) came on in relief and played the rest of the way for his first action of the season.

The Ravens return to action Saturday when they travel to take on Le Moyne in Syracuse, N.Y. at 1 p.m.
