Franklin Pierce Shoots Past Norwich, 23-4

Ravens total a program record 23 goal in second victory of the season

RINDGE, N.H. (April 2, 2007) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team earned a decisive 23-4 victory over Norwich University in non-conference action this evening at Sodexho Field. The Ravens totaled a program record 23 goals to earn their second victory of the season.

Sophomore Ryan Boller (New Cannan, Conn./New Cannan) led Franklin Pierce with a game-high seven points on a team-high five goals and two assists. Senior Michael Wilis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and junior Jason Flanigan (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) were also solid with five points apiece, while junior Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) totaled four points on two goals and two assists.

Freshman Sam Glanders (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) registered three points on one goal and two assists to lead Norwich University. Junior Drew Caplin (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) added two points on two assists, while classmate Cody Hardenburgh (Long Beach, N.Y./JFK Bellmore), sophomore Colin Smith (New Hampton, N.Y./New York Military Academy) and freshman Kyle Marzeoti (Billerica, Mass./Shawsheen Tech) chipped in with one goal apiece.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring just 0:10 into the match as Boller connected for his first goal of the game off a dish from Willis. The Ravens added seven more goals in the half to take an 8-0 lead into the second period. Boller led the Raven scoring surge with three first quarter goals and one assist, while Ferreira added a goal and a helper.

In the second period, the Ravens extended their lead to 13-2 with a five goal attack led by Flanigan and Ferreira. Freshman Brendan Rooney (Newton, Mass./Newton) opened the scoring with a goal just 1:18 into the frame, while sophomore Patrick Colburn (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) and classmate John Priest (Burlington, Mass./Landmark School) netted goals.

In the third period, Franklin Pierce exploded for seven more goals and gained a 20-3 lead. Willis led the hot-shooting Ravens with three goals in the period, while Flanigan netted two. Boller and freshman Lucas Hamory (Canton, Mass./Canton) chipped in with one score apiece.

Franklin Pierce added three more goals in the final period to preserve its second victory of the season. Junior Rob Frankel (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) opened the scoring for the Ravens with his fourth goal of the season, while Boller and freshman Devon Dupuis (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) rounded out the Raven scoring.

Franklin Pierce out-shot Norwich 54 to 20 in the contest. Senior goaltender Ben Lek (Gaithersburg, Md./Col Zadok Magruder) made two saves to earn the victory for the Ravens, while sophomore Joe Phelan (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) stopped 13 shots for the Cadets.

Franklin Pierce (2-4, 0-3 NE-10) will be in action again tomorrow as it travels to Green Mountain College at 4 p.m. Norwich University (1-3, 0-2 PL) will host Castleton State on Thursday at 3 p.m.
