Franklin Pierce Falls To #9 Merrimack, 20-2

Ferreira and Frankel notch Raven goals

RINDGE, N.H. (March 8, 2006) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team fell 20-2 to Merrimack College, ranked No. 9 in this week's NCAA Division II LaxPower rankings, in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at Warrior Field. Warrior freshman Greg Rogowski (Cohoes, N.Y.) led all scorers as he recorded 15 points, on nine goals and six assists.

Rogowski scored five goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game while sophomore Chris Elia (East Lyme, Conn.) contributed eight points on three goals and five assists. Sophomore Reid Eichelberger (Wrentham, Mass.) also notched two goals for the Warriors.

Franklin Pierce was led offensively by sophomore Rob Frankel (East Seatauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and classmate Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Mass./Landmark School) as each Raven notched one goal. Frankel tallied his first goal of the season with 6:43 remaining in the second period, while Ferreira registered his second goal of the season just 0:25 into the fourth period.

Franklin Pierce was out-shot 57-25. Merrimack goalies sophomore Eric Tompkins (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Peter Vitale (Wakefield, Mass.) combined to make 12 saves in the game while Ravens goaltender sophomore Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) stopped 18 shots in net.

Franklin Pierce (0-2, 0-1 NE-10) travels to No. 13 Bentley College on Thursday for a match starting at 7 p.m. Merrimack College (3-2, 2-0 NE-10) will also be in action on Thursday as it travels to Assumption College at 7 p.m.
