Franklin Pierce Falls to Moravian in Season Opener, 14-9
Mincolla nets four in loss for Ravens
GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 14, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 decision to Moravian College of Pennsylvania in its season opener at The Pyramids this afternoon.
Freshman Daniel Larson (Dover, Del./Dover) led Moravian with five goals and two assists. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, but Franklin Pierce rallied to knot the score at 4-4 after a goal from senior Kevin Medeiros (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) early in the second. Moravian answered with four-straight goals to regain control and went on to post its second victory of the season.
Junior Nick Mincolla (Cohasset, Mass./Gov. Drummer) led the Ravens with four goals. Sophomore Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) added a goal and two assists, while senior Jimmy Ward (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) and freshman Mike Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) each chipped in a goal and assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Matt Cloutier (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) stopped 24 of the 38 shots on goal he faced in his collegiate debut for the Ravens. Freshman Harry McCann (Cranford, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) stopped seven shots to preserve the victory.
Franklin Pierce was successful on three-of-four man-advantage situations on the afternoon.
Franklin Pierce (0-1) returns to action on Tuesday for a non-conference battle at Catawba College. Moravian (2-1) visits Muhlenberg College on Wednesday.
