Second-half Surge Lifts Merrimack Past Franklin Pierce, 17-5

Warriors out-score Ravens 9-2 over final 30-minutes  

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 19, 2004) - Merrimack College broke open an 8-3 match at the half by out-scoring Franklin Pierce, 4-0, in the third quarter en route to a 17-5 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse action at Warrior Field this afternoon.

Junior Bryan Brazill (Ridgefield, Conn.) totaled five points on three goals and two assists, while Tim Murphy (Newfield, Maine) and Kurt Carlson (Lynn, Mass.) both added two goals and three assists to lead the Merrimack attack. Wyatt Brown (Harvard, Mass.) totaled two goals and assists, while Clinten Reddick (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in three goals for the Warriors.

Senior Dean Patty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) led Franklin Pierce with two goals and an assist for three points, while classmate Jimmy Ward (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) netted two goals. Freshman Mike Willis (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) scored the Ravens remaining goal.

Freshman Matt Cloutier (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) made ten saves in goal for Franklin Pierce, while Tim Travers (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted eight stops over the final three quarters to preserve the victory for Merrimack.

The two teams traded goals early, with Franklin Pierce knotting the score at 1-1 at the 3:30-mark. Merrimack reeled off six-straight goals, but the Ravens were within 8-3 at the intermission. The Warriors out-scored the Ravens 4-0 in the third and 9-2 in the second half overall to extinguish any hopes of a comeback.

Franklin Pierce (1-9, 0-6 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday when it visits American International College at 4 p.m. Merrimack (4-4, 3-2 NE-10) travels to Southern New Hampshire University in Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
