Men's Ice Hockey: Ravens Third Period Woes Lead to Tough Loss, 4-1.

WORCESTER, M.A (1/26/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team suffered a tough loss on the road tonight in game one of the weekend series against Assumption, losing 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams had many scoring chances early in the game. Eight and a half minutes into the opening period, sophomore forward Devin Rohrich (Pittsburgh, PA) entered the offensive zone and found sophomore forward Tyson Springer (East Palestine, OH) in the slot for the game's first goal. Springer scored his eighth goal of the season. 

• A little over three minutes later, sophomore transfer forward Austin Pick (Troutdale, OR) scored his eighth goal of the season to give Franklin Pierce a 2-0 lead. With under three minutes left in the first period, Assumption cut the Franklin Pierce lead in half. Junior forward Ronny Paragallo scored his first of two goals tonight. Paragallo's first goal came on the power play. The Ravens had a 2-1 lead over the Greyhounds heading into the first intermission. 

• In the second period, Franklin Pierce regained their two-goal lead on a goal by sophomore defender Douglas McGuire (Elk Grove Village, III). McGuire scored his first goal of the season. Franklin Pierce held on to a 3-1 cushion over Assumption heading into the second intermission. 

• In the third period, Assumption took care of business, scoring three goals to get the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Franklin Pierce. The three goals for the Greyhounds came in the final 8:07 of regulation. Paragallo scored his second goal of the night to make it 3-2. Just 24 seconds later, the Greyhounds tied the game on a goal by senior forward William Roberts. This was his second goal of the season.

• With under three minutes to play, the Greyhounds took the lead for the first time. Freshman forward Jonathan Surrette scored his 17th goal of the season, seventh on the power play to seal the victory for Assumption. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Sophomore goaltender Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, NJ) made his 10th start in net tonight. He made 51 saves on 55 shots. 

• Franklin Pierce was 0 for 2 on the power play. Assumption was 2 for 5 on the power play. 

• Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 55-44. 

• Assumption won 42 faceoffs. 

 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS

• The weekend series concludes tomorrow between Franklin Pierce and Assumption at the Worcester Ice Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, with puck drop at 7:40 p.m. 

• Tomorrow is the final meeting of the regular season between these two teams, and Assumption has a 2-1 season-series lead.
