Men's Ice Hockey: Raven's come up short in 5-1 loss to the Saint Anselm Hawks

GARDNER, M.A (1/12/2024) -- A four-goal third period for St. Anselm was the difference maker tonight as they took game one of the weekend series against Franklin Piece at Gardner Veterans Arena, winning 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the first period, both teams had multiple opportunities to score, but great goaltending stole the show. Franklin Pierce freshman goaltender Maxymilian Banoun (Alpine, NJ) and St. Anselm freshman goaltender Cam Carroll made terrific saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

• Less than three minutes into the second period, St. Anselm sophomore forward Will Rosen scored the game's first goal. A little over three minutes later, Franklin Pierce freshman defender Todd Branish (Littleton, Colorado) scored his first career goal with the Ravens to tie the game at one.

• The Hawks scored four goals in the final period to seal the 5-1 victory over the Ravens. Just over two minutes into the period, junior forward Hunter Brackett scored his sixth goal of the season on the power play to give St. Anselm a 2-1 lead. A little over five minutes later, sophomore forward Luke Linart scored his first goal of the season on the power play to give the Hawks a two-goal lead. 

• With four minutes remaining in the game, Sophomore forward Garrett Alberti scored his third goal of the season to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead. Brackett scored his second goal of the game on an empty netter to give St. Anselm the 5-1 win. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Banoun made his fourth career start in net tonight for the Ravens and made 40 saves on 44 shots. 

• Franklin Pierce was 0 for 2 on the power play. 

• St. Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 45-40. 

 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS

• The Ravens return to action tomorrow at Gardner Veterans Arena to take on St. Anselm for game two of the weekend series with puck drop at 5:30 p.m.
