Men's Ice Hockey: Ravens Secure First Conference Win of the Season in 5-1 Victory Over Assumption

GARDNER, M.A. (11/4/2023) -- The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team, after suffering a tough loss the night before in their home opener, bounced back with a strong team performance to win 5-1 over the Greyhounds of Assumption. 

Score: Franklin Pierce 5, Assumption 1

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens came out quick with Tyson Springer (East Palestine, Ohio) who scored his second goal of the weekend on a backhand shot that set up the Ravens for the rest of the game.  

  • Three minutes later, Dimitris Christou (Skaneatleles, NY) scored a wrist shot to the right side to record his first collegiate goal with the Ravens.  

  • Assumption Greyhounds would follow it up two minutes later with a backhanded shot from Jonathan Surrette past Raven goaltender Brogan McDonald (Gorham, ME). 

  • Raven captain Cody Rumsey (York, PA) scored the Ravens third goal with seconds left in the first period to give the Ravens a 3-1 lead going into the second period. 

  • Devin Rohrich (Pittsburgh, PA) scored the lone goal in the second period with the Ravens on the power play, giving them a 4-1 lead. 

  • Then when the Greyhounds pulled their goaltender to try to get one back, Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, MA) scored the empty netter from the neutral zone to seal the 5-1 win.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • McDonald made 37 saves on 38 shots. Hauswirth made 18 saves on 22 shots. 

  • Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 38-23. 

  • Franklin Pierce was 1 for 3 on the powerplay. Assumption was 0 for 5 on the powerplay.  

 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: 

• The Ravens go on the road to Saint Michaels with the series starting Friday November 10th with puck drop scheduled at 7 pm
