Men's Ice Hockey: Ravens Drop Game One of Weekend Series Against Assumption, 7-3

GARDNER, M.A. (11/3/2023) -- The Franklin Pierce men's hockey team suffered a tough loss tonight in their home opener in game one of the weekend series against Assumption, losing 7-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Assumption sophomore forward Jake Lavoie scored the game's first goal with a minute left to go in the first period. Junior forward Ronny Paragallo forced a turnover behind the Franklin Pierce net, and he found Lavoie in the slot for his second goal of the season.

• Franklin Pierce tied the game 39 seconds later. The Ravens crashed the net, and sophomore forward Tyson Springer (East Palestine, Ohio) scored his first goal of the season on the doorstep.

• A little over five minutes into the second period, Paragallo scored his third goal in two games to give Assumption a 2-1 lead. Paragallo forced a turnover in the neutral zone and scored on a breakaway.

• Less than two minutes later, junior defender John Woernle scored his first goal of the season to give Assumption a 3-1 lead over Franklin Pierce. Freshman forward Jonathan Surrette answered with his third goal of the season on the power play to give the Greyhounds a 4-1 lead.

• With less than 30 seconds to go in the second period, freshman forward Nicholas Tessier (Burnsville, MN) scored his first career goal with the Ravens to cut the Greyhounds lead in half. Junior forward Michael Flaherty (Rockland, MA) sent the puck into the slot, and Tessier tipped it past senior goaltender Thomas McLarnon.

• Freshman defender Patrick McKiernan scored his third goal of the season to give Assumption a 5-2 lead. He was able to break away from a few Raven defenders and sent a shot on net that beat sophomore goaltender Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, NJ).

• Junior defender Sean Corliss scored his first career goal with the Greyhounds to give Assumption a 6-2 lead. A little over a minute later, sophomore forward Austin Pick scored his second goal in two games to cut the Greyhounds lead in half.

• McKiernan scored his second goal of the game as time expired in regulation to give Assumption the 7-3 win.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Connor made 32 saves on 39 shots. McLarnon made 15 saves on 18 shots.

• Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 39-18.

• Franklin Pierce was 0 for 3 on the powerplay. Assumption was 1 for 5 on the powerplay. 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS:

• The Ravens return to action tomorrow afternoon at Gardner Veterans Arena to take on the Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m.
