Men’s Ice Hockey’s Lester, Martin Collect NE10 Weekly Awards

RINDGE, N.H. (January 22, 2019) – Junior forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team has been selected as Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending on Jan. 20, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. In addition, freshman goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) has been named NE10 Goaltender of the Week.

Lester piled up five points, on two goals and two assists, in a 1-1-1 week for the Ravens. He also chalked up 18 shots on goal over the three games. Lester dished out two assists in a 3-3 tie at Assumption on Tuesday night and then scored the lone goal in a 5-1 loss at SNHU on Friday night. He assisted on a second-period goal and later scored the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory over SNHU at home on Saturday night.

On the season, Lester has played in all 18 games and is the team’s leading scorer, with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. He has tallied four power-play goals and two game-winning goals along the way.

Martin made just one appearance in net last week, but made the best of it in Saturday’s overtime win over SNHU. The freshman piled up a season-best 46 saves against 47 shots in the victory, to post a .979 save percentage and an 0.94 goals-against average.

On the season, Martin has logged just shy of 30% of the team’s minutes in goal. Over 322:48 in the crease, he has made 203 saves against 215 shots, over seven appearances (four starts). Martin owns a .944 save percentage, a 2.23 goals-against average and a 3-1-0 record.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, when they remain home to host Assumption in a two-game, NE10 weekend series. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. both nights at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
