Men’s Ice Hockey’s McGuckin Lands on All-NE10 Second Team

Tom McGuckin

All-Northeast-10 selections

RINDGE, N.H. (February 23, 2018) – Senior goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey has capped his career with a selection to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team, as announced on Friday morning by the Conference office.

It is the second career All-NE10 selection for McGuckin, who was named to the First Team, and also collected Goaltender of the Year honors, a year ago. He was also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2014-15.

McGuckin logged just under two-thirds of the team’s minutes in the crease in his final collegiate season. Over 998:14 minutes, he allowed 64 goals on 609 shots, to finish with 545 saves. He posted an .895 save percentage and a 3.85 goals-against average over 18 starts, on the way to a 4-13-1 record.

McGuckin will finish his career as the school’s all-time goaltending leader in games played (64), minutes played (3485:13) and saves (1940), and will also graduate second in program annals in save percentage (.904) and goals-against average (3.53).

Heartbreakingly, McGuckin finished just .001 shy of the school’s all-time save percentage mark and just 0.01 off of the program’s all-time best goals-against average. Both records are held by Dave O’Brien ’14 and, based on the number of shots faced, McGuckin would have needed two more saves -- over the course of four years -- to claim both records.
