McGuckin Named Northeast-10 Goaltender of the Year; Men’s Ice Hockey has Four Honored by League

Northeast-10 All-Conference selections

RINDGE N.H. (February 17, 2017) – Junior goaltender Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team has been selected as Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Year, as announced on Friday by the Conference office. McGuckin also landed on the All-Northeast-10 First Team, leading three All-Conference selections and four league honorees for the Ravens. Junior forward Jonathan Haun (Buffalo, N.Y.) and senior defenseman Alex Schleper (Sutton, Mass.) were both named to the All-Northeast-10 Second Team, while freshman forward Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) was selected for the All-Rookie Team.

McGuckin becomes the second Raven in program history to earn Goaltender of the Year honors from the NE10, joining Dave O'Brien, who took home the award in his junior season of 2012-13. McGuckin, Haun and Schleper each earned their first career All-Conference selections.

McGuckin started 22 of 25 games between the pipes for the Ravens this winter, logging 1220:01 minutes, which represented just over 80% of the team's ice time. He finished the campaign with 657 saves against 721 shots on goal, allowing 64 goals along the way. It all added up to a career-best 3.15 goals-against average, as well as a .911 save percentage, to go with an 8-13-1 record. McGuckin ranks second in the NE10 in goals-against average and fourth in save percentage.

Haun played in all 25 games for the Ravens and finished as the team's leading scorer. He tallied 20 points on the season, which is tied for fifth in the league, on nine goals and 11 assists. Haun is tied for seventh in the NE10 in goal scoring and tied for eighth in assists. Along the way, he scored four power-play goals, one shorthanded goal and picked up nine penalties totaling 21 minutes.

Schleper, the captain of the Ravens, also played in all 25 games this winter. He capped his career with an 11-point senior season, which featured four goals on seven assists, as he finished fifth on the team in scoring, as well as second among defensemen. The 11 points are good enough to rank Schleper fifth in the NE10 in defenseman scoring. Over the course of the season, he scored two power-play goals, one shorthanded goal and picked up 11 penalties for 22 minutes.

Toombs saw the ice in 18 of 25 games for the Ravens, but still finished sixth on the team in scoring, with 10 points on seven goals and three assists. Among NE10 freshmen, the 10 points are good for a tie for seventh in the league, while the seven goals were the fifth-most by a rookie. Toombs scored three power-play goals and two game-winning goals on the season, and also picked up 19 penalties totaling 46 minutes.

The Ravens finished their season at 9-15-1 (3-8-0 NE10), matching the program record for wins, which was originally set in 2012-13 (9-13-3).
