Men’s Ice Hockey Falls at Hamilton, 4-0

Ravens host Assumption Tuesday

Ravens Men's Ice Hockey CLINTON, N.Y. (January 24, 2015) – Hamilton freshman forward Tyler Bruneteau scored twice in the first period on Saturday night, as the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-0 defeat in non-conference play on the road at Russell Sage Rink. Freshman goaltender Étienne Roy (Saint-Henri, Quebec) piled up 47 saves in defeat for the Ravens, who were outshot 51-12 in the game.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-13-0 (2-4-0 Northeast-10), while Hamilton improves to 6-6-4 (4-4-2 NESCAC).

Bruneteau's pair of goals came in the final five minutes of the first period and would be all the Continentals would need on Saturday night. First, he struck for his third of the season at the 14:14 mark, for what would stand as the game-winner, off of assists from sophomore forward Robbie Murden and junior forward Kenny Matheson, as the whole line got in on the act. The scoring would be the same at 19:26, as Murden and Matheson again teamed to set up Bruneteau's fourth of the season, this time on the power play.

Hamilton added insurance markers early in the second period and early in the third stanza to create the 4-0 final. At 3:37 of the second frame, freshman forward Neil Conway's first career goal came off a helper from junior defenseman Marko Brelih. At the 1:41 mark of the third, Murden capped his three-point night with his eighth goal of the season, unassisted.

Roy was under siege in the Franklin Pierce net throughout the night and piled up a season-best 47 saves -- his first career 40-save outing -- but was stuck with the loss anyway (1-3-0). Freshman goaltender Tim Nowacki faced just 12 shots and stopped them all to post his first career shutout and earn the win (2-1-1) between the pipes for Hamilton.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Jan. 27, when they return home to host Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
