GENESEO, N.Y. (January 10, 2014) – Freshman forward Brett Oldaker (Canonsburg, Pa.) had a goal and an assist as the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team took a 2-1 lead in the second period on Friday night, but six unanswered goals would give SUNY Geneseo a 7-2 win in non-conference play at Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena. Five different players had two points each and seven different players scored in the victory for SUNY Geneseo.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-10-1 (1-3-1 Northeast-10), while SUNY Geneseo improves to 10-2-0 (7-1-0 SUNYAC). SUNY Geneseo chalked up a 60-20 advantage in shots in the game.

SUNY Geneseo held a 20-4 edge in shots in the first period and picked up the stanza's only goal at the 18:27 mark on the team-leading 10th of the season for senior forward Zachary Vit. Freshman defenseman J.D. Rassett and freshman forward Jack Ceglarski provided the assists on the play.

Franklin Pierce scored its two goals over the first 2:13 of the second period to briefly take a 2-1 lead. Oldaker struck for his second of the campaign just 79 seconds into the middle frame, while freshman forward Aaron Blaker (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) and junior forward Tim Sullivan (Rye, N.H.) provided the helpers. SUNY Geneseo freshman forward Connor Anthoine was whistled for hooking 42 seconds after the Oldaker goal, and the Ravens converted just 12 seconds into the ensuing power play to take the lead. At the 2:13 mark, senior defenseman Tyler Cornele (Cape Coral, Fla.) put home his team-leading fifth of the season, off assists from Sullivan and Oldaker.

From there, it was all Knights the rest of the way, as they tied the game 3:59 after the Cornele goal, with senior forward Jonathan Sucese's fourth of the year, off assists by sophomore defenseman Matthew Hutchinson and junior forward Justin Scharfe. The score was the first volley in a span where SUNY Geneseo scored three times in 2:35 to storm to a 4-2 lead. The eventual game-winner came from senior forward Carson Schell, who put away his first of the season 55 seconds after the Sucese goal, with sophomore forward Ryan Donnelly and sophomore defenseman Matt Solomon dishing out the assists. Junior forward Tyler Brickler capped the period's scoring with his ninth of the season at 8:47, after being set up by freshman forward Stephen Collins and junior defenseman Jack Caradonna.

SUNY Geneseo also struck three times in the first 7:35 of the third period to create the 7-2 final. First, at 2:04, sophomore forward David Ripple's third goal of the season made it 5-2, with Scharfe and freshman defenseman Cam Hampson adding the assists. At 4:40, Caradonna got in on the act with his first of the year, off assists from junior forward Ryan Stanimir and Hutchinson. Stanimir's sixth of the campaign -- a shorthanded marker -- would cap the day's scoring at 7:35, with Brickler and sophomore defenseman Nate Brown picking up helpers.

Senior goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) was under siege throughout the night in front of the Franklin Pierce net, as he piled up 53 saves, but was stuck with the loss (1-7-1) anyway. For O'Brien, it was his second career outing with 50-plus saves, and it marked the ninth such performance in program history. At the other end of the ice, sophomore Nick Horrigan made 18 saves to pick up the win (3-1-0) between the pipes for SUNY Geneseo.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they return home to host SUNY Fredonia in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
