Men’s Ice Hockey Downed at Brockport, 6-2

Ravens return home for Senior Night on Tuesday

Glynn Glynn had his second multiple-point night of the season on Saturday at Brockport.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (February 16, 2013) – Freshman forward Brendan Glynn (Quincy, Mass.) figured on both of the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team's goals with a pair of assists on Saturday night, though the club was defeated, 6-2, in non-conference play on the road by Brockport at Tuttle North Ice Arena. Junior forward Chris Cangro scored twice and added an assist in the victory for Brockport.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-11-3 (6-4-1 Northeast-10), while Brockport improves to 7-16-2 (5-10-1 SUNYAC). Franklin Pierce finishes the season 1-4-0 against SUNY schools -- and had two against SUNY Canton cancelled by Winter Storm Nemo -- as Head Coach Jaymie Harrington continues his policy of being willing to test his squad by playing teams from some of the most successful Division III conferences in the nation.

Brockport opened the scoring less than a minute into the evening, as junior defenseman Matt DeLuca struck at the 55-second mark. Sophomore forward Troy Polino and freshman forward Michael Zagari provided the assists on DeLuca's first of the campaign.

Franklin Pierce provided an answer before the game was six minutes old, on the fourth of the season for senior forward Sean Dunn (Quincy, Mass.), who has now scored in back-to-back games. The goal came at 5:14 off a helper from Glynn.

From there, Brockport put home two more goals before the period ended to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. One minute after the Dunn goal, Cangro reclaimed the lead with his seventh goal of the year, off assists from Polino and freshman forward Chase Nieuwendyk. The goal was enough to chase Franklin Pierce senior goaltender Pat Dunn (Quincy, Mass.) from the net after only 6:14, in favor of freshman Kyle Moran (Marshfield, Mass.). Cangro added his second of the night with a power-play marker at 16:49, as he finished off a setup from senior defenseman Mike Hayward and junior forward Brendon Rothfuss.

The Golden Eagles potted two more goals early in the second to stretch the lead to 5-1. At the 2:16 mark, freshman defenseman Chad Cummings scored his first career goal, while freshman forwards Jeremy DeFazio and Kody Vaisanen contributed the assists. Just 20 seconds later, at 2:36, Nieuwendyk put home a goal to go with his assist from earlier. Rothfuss notched his second assist and Cangro added an assist to his two goals on Nieuwendyk's fourth of the season.

Brockport pushed the lead as high as 6-1 with its final goal of the evening at 10:50 of the third. Senior defenseman Colby Spooner scored his second of the season, unassisted. Franklin Pierce created the 6-2 final with a goal 104 seconds later, at 12:34. Glynn dished out his second assist of the night on the third of the campaign and second in as many games for senior forward Dino Federico (Canton, Mass.).

Pat Dunn made two saves against four shots before being lifted after the second Brockport goal. Moran stopped 33 of 37 shots the rest of the way and took the loss (0-1-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce cage. Sophomore Aaron Green turned aside 18 of 20 shots sent his way to pick up the win (4-7-0) in net for Brockport.

The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Feb. 19, when they return home to host Westfield State in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
