First Period Problematic as Men’s Ice Hockey Blanked at SUNY Geneseo, 4-0

Ravens and Knights meet again Saturday

Coach Harrington The Ravens are out in Geneseo for two games, opening faceoff for the second half of the weekend set is Saturday at 3 p.m.

GENESEO, N.Y. (January 11, 2013) – A trio of first-period goals proved to be a hole too deep for the Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team to dig out of on Friday night, as it dropped a 4-0 decision on the road against SUNY Geneseo at Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena. Sophomore forward Tyler Brickler scored a goal and added three assists for Geneseo in the win.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-6-2 (2-1-0 Northeast-10), while Geneseo improves to 9-5-1 (6-1-1 SUNYAC). The two teams will meet again at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena to complete the two-game weekend set.

Three goals in a span of 8:02 in the first period would be the only offense Geneseo needed on the night. Brickler opened the scoring with his third of the season at the 5:28 mark, off assists from freshman defenseman Nate Brown and sophomore forward Justin Scharfe. All three would post their second point of the night at 11:08, as Brickler and Brown set up Scharfe for his fourth of the campaign. The Knights would spread the scoring a little bit at the 13:30 mark, when freshman forward Brent Bisdee tallied his first career goal on an assist from fellow freshman forward AJ Sgarglio.

Geneseo created the 4-0 final just 62 seconds into the second period, before the remaining 38:58 of the game went without further scoring. Brickler added his second assist of the night, as he and freshman defenseman Dennis Playfair chipped in the helpers on the fourth goal of the year for junior forward Zachary Vit.

Senior goaltender Pat Dunn (Quincy, Mass.) made 25 saves against 29 shots on goal and suffered the loss (2-5-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Bryan Haude turned aside all 20 shots he faced to post his second shutout of the season and pick up the win (4-2-0) for Geneseo.
