Men’s Ice Hockey Falls at Westfield State, 3-0, to Conclude Season

Siok In the final act of his career, Siok stopped 32 shots at Westfield State on Tuesday night.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (February 21, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University men's ice hockey team wrapped up its 2011-12 season on Tuesday night, dropping a 3-0 decision to Westfield State in non-conference play at Amelia Park. Senior goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 32 saves in the final start of his career for the Ravens.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce finishes the campaign at 5-13-4 (4-5-2 Northeast-10), while Westfield State improves to 7-13-5 (4-10-4 Massachusetts State).

After the first period went without a goal, Westfield State opened the scoring with the only goal it would need at the 2:47 mark of the second frame. Sophomore forward Adam Baldassarre notched his second of the season to put the Owls out front to stay, while freshman defenseman Todd Gebert and junior forward Lucas Romero provided the assists.

Westfield State picked up a pair of insurance markers on the power play in the middle of the third period, just 46 seconds apart, to create the 3-0 final. First, at the 8:40 mark, sophomore forward Taylor Murphy put away his fourth of the season off assists from sophomore forward Vince Perreault and senior forward Pat Nelson. At the 9:26 mark, it was Gebert and sophomore defenseman Billy Miller with the helpers on freshman forward Steve Evans' team-leading 11th goal of the campaign.

Siok made 32 saves, but took the loss (2-5-0) in front of the net for Franklin Pierce. Junior Justin Roethlingshoefer turned aside 39 shots to pick up the win (1-0-0) between the pipes for Westfield State.

Franklin Pierce posted a 39-35 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Westfield State finished 2-for-5 with the man-advantage.
