AUBURN, Mass. (November 18, 2010) – Freshman forward Bryan Colella (Medfield, Mass.) scored a pair of goals 2:44 apart on Thursday night to lead the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Worcester State in non-conference play at Daniel Horgan Memorial Ice Rink. Junior forward Nick Asterito had a goal and an assist in the loss for Worcester State.

With the victory, Franklin Pierce improves to 1-6-0 (0-0-0 Northeast-10), while Worcester State falls to 0-1-2 (0-0-0 Massachusetts State).

Much of the first period would go scoreless before the two teams traded goals in the stanza's final minute. Asterito struck first, on the power play, with his first of the season at 19:02, with assists from freshman forward Brendan Galley and senior forward Chris Wallin.

Franklin Pierce would answer with just three seconds remaining in the opening frame to prevent Worcester State from taking the 1-0 lead into the locker room. Colella put home his second of the season for the Ravens, off assists from sophomore forward Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) and junior forward Kevin Quinn (West Linn, Ore.).

Colella would strike again early in the second period to give Franklin Pierce a lead it would never relinquish. His second goal of the evening came unassisted at the 2:41 mark of the second frame.

Exactly six minutes later, sophomore forward Adam Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.) found the eventual game-winning goal on the power play for Franklin Pierce. His first of the season came via assists from sophomore forward Dino Federico (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Brendan McCarron (Andover, Mass.).

Worcester State pulled to within a goal with just 32 seconds remaining in the middle period, when sophomore forward Tim D'Orazio scored his second goal of the season. Asterito and Wallin contributed the assists, as each picked up his second point of the night. The Ravens defense held serve in the third period to preserve the 3-2 victory.

Freshman goaltender Dave O'Brien (Groton, Mass.) made 32 saves to pick up his first collegiate win (1-1-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Junior Bryan Kalcynski stopped 45 shots, but was saddled with the loss (0-1-1) between the pipes for Worcester State.

Franklin Pierce posted a 48-34 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Worcester State finished 1-for-4 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Saturday, Nov. 20, when they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Foxboro Sports Center in Foxborough, Mass.
