Men’s Golf Finishes 10th at Eagles Invitational

WATERTOWN, Conn. (October 12, 2021) -- Looking to make up spots in a crowded midfield, the Franklin Pierce University men's golf team slid back one spot instead on Tuesday, at the second and final day of the Eagles Invitational, hosted by Post University. The Ravens turned in a final-round 325 (+41) -- the third-highest round of the day -- and finished 10th, out of 14 teams. The Eagles Invitational was held at the par-71, 6638-yard Watertown Golf Club.

At 309-304-325--938 (+86), the Ravens gave up 12 shots in Tuesday's final round to American International, which turned in a 306-308-313--927 (+75) line to leapfrog Franklin Pierce into ninth place. The Ravens finished nine shots in front of 11th-place Adelphi, at 319-311-317--947 (+95).

Southern New Hampshire put together the three lowest rounds of the tournament to finish at 290-285-290--865 (+13) and win going away. The Penmen were 13 shots better than the host Eagles of Post, who turned in a line of 292-293-293--878 (+26). Le Moyne used a final-round 297 (+13) to move up one spot and finish third, at 301-295-297--893 (+41).

Only one Raven managed to break 80 on Tuesday, as sophomore Thomas Hickey (Moultonborough, N.H.) turned in a final-round 77 (+6). Sophomore Jake Berkio (Ashburnham, Mass.) and junior Michael Sosik (Fiskdale, Mass.) followed with a pair of 80s (+9), while Franklin Pierce also had to count an 88 (+17) among its scoring four, from sophomore Matt Lynch (Melrose, Mass.). Freshman Peter Wurszt (Wilbraham, Mass.) turned in the second-highest round of the day in the 81-golfer field, as he needed 90 shots (+19) to get around Watertown Golf Club.

SNHU freshman Jack Pepin had the round of the day, and the round of the tournament, as he fired a Tuesday 67 (-4) to surge seven spots and take medalist honors at 73-72-67--212 (-1). Assumption sophomore Sean Magarian and SNHU sophomore AJ Cavotta finished three shots back at 215 (+2). Magarian turned in a 70-72-73--215 line, while Cavotta, who had led following the second round, put together a line of 70-71-74--215.

Franklin Pierce's best finisher was Sosik, who tied for 33rd with a 75-76-80--231 (+18) line. Berkio squeaked into the top half of the field as well, as he went 79-75-80--234 (+21) to finish tied-40th. Hickey was tied-52nd at 79-82-77--238 (+25), while Wurszt tied for 62nd at 76-75-90--241 (+28). Lynch finished solo-76th to round out the lineup at 86-78-88--252 (+39).

The Ravens will close out the fall portion of their schedule next weekend, at the Le Moyne Fall Invitational. The two-day event is set for Oct. 15-16 at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y.
